Lorquí, recognized as a Child Friendly City UNICEF (19/10/2016)

After the resolution of UNICEF Spanish Committee that values ​​the work of municipalities in favor of the rights of children and adolescents with the Seal of Recognition of Child Friendly Cities 2016-20, Lorquí receives, for the first time this important recognition .

Thus, it is confirmed that the main priorities of municipal policy regarding childhood and adolescence comply with certain quality requirements.

Friendly Cities (CAI) for Children program launched by UNICEF Spanish Committee, the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities (FEMP) and Provinces, and the Institute of Needs and Rights of Children and adolescents (IUNDIA), it aims to encourage and promote the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the local level and promote the participation of children and adolescents in all issues affecting them, and encourage networking among various municipalities that are part of this initiative.

The goal is to design and implement effective public policies to improve the welfare of children, defending their rights, encouraging their participation and making cities more livable, especially for younger environments.

"Children need institutions, public and private, are up to the significant challenges as a society ahead, and therefore it is essential all the support they can provide not only UNICEF but also to all cities child friendly and the various entities that work with them ", as noted Maite Pacheco, director of advocacy and policies for children UNICEF Spanish Committee.

For its part, the mayor of Lorquí, Joaquin Hernandez, expressed his satisfaction with this distinction that "recognizes the important work being done by the City Council in the field of children and adolescents to address their real problems and needs and to engage our children and youth activity and daily life of our town. it is important that they participate, because no one can know better than they do what they want and need for their people. "

The Councillor for Social Policy, Carmen Baths, wanted to thank the work done by municipal technicians who have been involved in this beautiful project, specially the coordination of Maria Fuster, also highlighting the effort that has been made since the departments Education, Youth, Culture and Citizenship.

"That Lorquí has ​​achieved the Seal Child Friendly City is the work of political will and effort of all those working in the field of childhood and adolescence at the local level."

The award, which is awarded every two years tas an evaluation process to municipalities and institutions presented to the call of the program, has also been delivered to Cieza Murcia and San Javier in Murcia.
