The Nazarene of Salzillo, protagonist of the poster of Holy Week of Lorquí 2017 (09/03/2017)

In addition, the Museum Salzillo has opened an exhibition with the original textiles of the sculptures, the Parish of Santiago Apostle of Lorquí, the Dolorosa and the Nazarene of Salzillo declared BIC

The image of Our Father Jesus Nazareno of the sculptor Francisco Salzillo, of the Parish Santiago Apostle of Lorquí, is the protagonist of the Poster of the Holy Week 2017 of the municipality that today has appeared in the Salzillo Museum of the capital.

The event has taken place in the Church of Jesus given the importance and exceptionality of this work, unique in the Region of Murcia.

There are only two images of Nazarenes made by Salzillo, the sculpture of Lorquí and another in Huercal Overa (Almería).

The event was presided over by the president of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus and president of the Executive Commission of the Salzillo Museum, Antonio Gómez Fayren, the director of the Salzillo Museum, Maria Teresa Marín, the mayor of Lorquí, Joaquín Hernández, the secretary general Of the Ministry of Culture, José Vicente Albaladejo, and the curator of the Exhibition and member of the Cabildo, Emilio Marco.

The presentation has been moderated by the journalist, Alberto Castillo.

Lorquí is included in the so-called 'Cities of Salzillo' for the magnificent sculptural ensemble consisting of the images of St. Joseph and the Children Jesus, the Sorrowful Virgin and Our Father Jesus Nazarene.

In 2011 for the quality and exceptionality of the same, BIC declared all the sculptural ensemble.

Also worthy of consideration were the full textile garment of the Dolorosa, unique in its kind and three pieces of goldsmithing closely related to the sculptures.

Among them, the silver dagger that Miguel Morote, usual goldsmith of Salzillo, worked towards 1760.

Pieces that are part of the exhibition that has been inaugurated for the presentation at the Salzillo Museum and will remain in it until the month of June.

The president of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus has shown his satisfaction for this act of twinning between the brotherhood of Murcia and that of the same name of Lorquí, who treasures the magnificent Nazarene made by Salzillo and the municipality itself.

"Surely the Murcia sculptor had the Nazarene titular of the Brotherhood of Jesus, a work of great veneration in Murcia and dating to the year 1600. It is therefore very moving that we present before the Nazarene of Jesus the splendid poster that announces the Week Santa de Lorquí, with the image of Jesus Nazareno who commissioned Alejandro Marco for his villa in the mid-eighteenth century.

For her part, the director of the Museum has shown her joy for "this presentation and the exhibition of the clothing of the textile of the images of Our Father Jesus and the Sorrowful of Lorquí that mark the beginning of a path of collaboration between the parish of Santiago and The Town Hall of Lorquí with the Salzillo Museum to be able to show the excellent artistic patrimony that treasures the municipality. Visitors who approach the Salzillo Museum these days, which will be many, will be able to enjoy these jewels of the sumptuary art ".

The director general has stressed the importance of the presence of the Ministry of Culture in this act to recognize the wealth Lorquí treasures with these pieces of Salzillo and has shown his intention to promote cultural events and events more rooted in tradition, As is Holy Week.

The mayor thanked the good reception at the Salzillo Museum and stressed the importance of this type of twinning between institutions that have both so valuable in common.

"For our people the images of Salzillo are a very important value, both religious, artistic and heritage, and it is an immense joy for us to be able to bring to this Museum the legacy that Lorquí has of the master sculptor. Beautiful twinning between the Museum, the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus and the Cabildo de Cofradías and the Town Hall of Lorquí.

He also indicated that from the Consistory will continue to work to promote and publicize the heritage of the municipality.

The Holy Week of Lorquí has unique events in the Region as the representation of the Living Passion, Palm Sunday, in which the entire town stages the last hours of Christ;

The Blessing of Our Father Jesus Nazarene on Holy Thursday at the end of the procession and the Desenclavamiento on Good Friday in which the descent of the cross of Christ is represented and dates from 1698.

We must bear in mind that this presentation is framed within the great effort that has been carried out for many years from the Cabildo de Cofradías in announcing our Holy Week, which, as its slogan correctly says, is 'several times centenarian', as they have since The Cabildo de Cofradías.

On the other hand, this year a great effort has been made to make one of our best announcing posters that, thanks to the photographer and plastic artist, Bartolomé Medina Abellán, we can proudly present in one of the most emblematic places and closely related to us as it is TheSalzillo museum.

From the municipality they have invited all the citizens of the Region to visit Lorquí and to know more about their artistic and cultural heritage, for example, in the setting and environment of Holy Week.
