After his transfer on December 3 from the Parish of Santiago Apóstol de Lorquí to the Sala de Sketches of the Salzillo Museum, La Dolorosa de Salzillo of the municipality has embarked on a new and small 'trip' to the Church of Jesus to share, until next March 5, space and stage with the best carvings of the sculptor, including La Dolorosa best known of the artist, the so-called Dolorosa de Jesus.
Thus, last Thursday, December 13, on the occasion of this new transfer, the Salzillo Museum hosted a conference by the curator of the exhibition, Emilio Marco, in which he reviewed the provenance and history of the three pieces of Salzillo that treasures the municipality: San José and El Niño, Jesús Nazareno and La Dolorosa, declared of Cultural Interest in 2011. In addition, he made a detailed and meticulous description of the most outstanding characteristics of these works of Baroque imagery.
The image that is exhibited in the Salzillo Museum is made, by the sculptor, after the most recognized creation of this iconography, La Dolorosa de Jesús.
Thus, for Lorquí, Salzillo will pose a younger Virgin canon where the Rococo delicacy, to which the author was no stranger in his production, shows both modeling and exquisite polychromy, as Marco emphasized.
In addition, it deserves special mention that La Dolorosa de Lorquí retains both the textile and silver garments conceived by Sazillo, which makes it a unique case in the history of Spanish art.
The exhibition is the result of joint work and collaboration developed between the Parish of Santiago Apóstol de Lorquí, the Salzillo Museum and the Lorquí City Council in recent years, which began in 2017 with the presentation of the Ilorcitina Holy Week poster in the Church of Lorquí. Jesus and that has been adding other initiatives and projects throughout this time.
