The president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), Mario Urrea, and the mayor of Lorquí, Joaquín Hernández, have signed a protocol to recover the riparian forest in the course of the Segura river.
This agreement is a collaborative framework that will streamline and make more effective all the measures taken to prioritize the development of native plant species against the proliferation of the invasive cane (Arundo donax).
Previous projects of the Confederation such as the Life + Segurariverlink and custody agreements, such as the one maintained by the City Council of Lorquí with ANSE, have shown that it is possible to rehabilitate the Segura river ecosystem and make it more sustainable with the cooperation of all administrations and the commitment of neighbors, local associations and owners.
These experiences will help the municipal government to carry out cleaning and recovery initiatives of the riverside forest in the riverbed with the advice and permits of the basin organization.
