The image of the young San Juan de Francisco Liza, protagonist of the poster of Easter Week Lorquí (22/03/2019)

The image of San Juan, the young disciple who remained until the end at the foot of the cross, sculptor Francisco Liza, is the protagonist of the poster of the Holy Week of Lorquí 2019 that has been presented at the Salzillo Museum in the capital.

The snapshot is by the winning author of the third edition of the Lorquí photography contest, Andrés Gadea.

The event was chaired by the president of the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús and president of the Executive Committee of the Salzillo Museum, Antonio Gómez Fayrén, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Autonomous Community, Miriam Guardiola, the mayor of the municipality, Joaquín Hernández, the president of the Cabildo de Cofradías de Lorquí, Felipe Tomás, and the president of the Brotherhood of San Juan de Lorquí, Blas García.

The Holy Week of Lorquí transcends its important religious sense, which is enriched by a patrimonial, cultural and artistic legacy that not only includes exceptional pieces by the master sculptor Francisco Salzillo, such as La Dolorosa, the Nazarene and the whole of San José and the Boy;

but, in addition, Easter Week of Lorquí recovers ancient traditions that achieve moments and unique experiences for any visitor, such as the Santo Desenclavamiento, in the Plaza de la Libertad, or the Blessing of the Nazarene articulated by Salzillo in the silence of the dawn of Holy Thursday.

"We are very aware of this in Lorquí, and that is why we have been working very hard to get to know it in the rest of the region and also outside our borders," said Hernández, who highlighted that, this year, the letter was taken advantage of. of presentation of the sculptural set of Salzillo for Lorquí, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, to show and make known the whole context of Holy Week in the International Fair of Tourism in Madrid (FITUR).

Context in which there are also exceptional pieces such as the faithful companion of Jesus, the young apostle Saint John, who "Francisco Liza carved to add to the rich heritage an image of influence and salzillesque tradition related to the imagery that surrounds us here", as the president of the Ilorcitana Brotherhood recalled.

The Holy Week of Lorquí is lived from the Palm Sunday, with the representation of the Living Passion, that takes to the town visitors of all parts;

until Resurrection Sunday and the Procession of the Risen One, through the Blessing of Christ articulated on Holy Thursday and the Holy Unlocking on Good Friday.

Precisely, the City of Lorquí has chosen an image of the Living Passion to promote the Holy Week ilorcitana through mupis and posters throughout the Region.

After the presentation ceremony, the mayor and the president of the Cabildo de Cofradías presented a very special present to the president of the Brotherhood of Jesus, a silk dress for the Sorrowful Woman of Jesus inspired by an 18th century piece.

The fabric is a silver brocade spine on salmon and coral silk threads with a motif known as the 'horseshoe' model, inspired by a creation of the second half of the 18th century and from which, precisely, Lorquí Parish preserves an original designed by Salzillo for his Dolorosa ilorcitana and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

The fabric has been woven exprofeso by a Valencian workshop and the suit has been made by an ilorcitana dressmaker, Pilar Ibáñez.

La Dolorosa de Jesús already possessed a similar costume that was lost at the end of the 19th century.

In this way, after the relationship established between the town of Lorquí and the Brotherhood of Jesus and the Salzillo Museum, this gift is a symbol of gratitude for the hospitality and love received and a way to "always remain a vestige of this relationship between the walls of this house ", as Hernández emphasized.
