The municipality of Lorquí has ​​since last Saturday with a new artistic manifestation in its streets.

Within the framework of its patron saint festivities in honor of Santiago Apóstol, a monumental scale sculpture was inaugurated in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in homage to all the women of the municipality.

The work, by artist Tomás Valmazza, is inspired by Greek art to offer us a new representation of a Nike.

"A contemporary Victory that is a beacon for women, although it is also for men to join this egalitarian project, and a symbolic and brilliant figurehead", in the words of the author.

The sculpture is composed of a metaphorically incomplete major figure constructed thanks to many real women, represented by the smaller images of the upper part.

A symbol that already comes alive and moves from strong roots, but with wings that give it autonomy and freedom to start a journey, to fly to a new heaven.

The construction is pending culminate because there are still social and cultural redoubts that should be added to this project of equality or that hinder its achievement: missing a wing, part of the chest, arm and head, consciously made so by the author.

"This work is a well-deserved tribute to all the women of Lorquí in their various facets, because they have proven to be strong, courageous and autonomous women who have fought for their rights and for their freedom from their different positions. more sincere admiration ", as the mayor, Joaquín Hernández, emphasized during the inauguration.

Tomás Valmazza studied design at the Superior School of Design in Murcia and has a Master's Degree in Design from the Menéndez Pelayo University in Barcelona.

He is a multidisciplinary artist in branches such as interior design, window dressing, design of everyday objects and large format sculpture for public and private facilities and administrations.

Outstanding among his latest projects are the works carried out for the design of the new installations of the Tomás Guillén company in Lorquí and the designs of sculptures for the restaurant 'La Cabaña' by Pablo Conejero.
