Lorquí City Council presented its Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES) last week in the plenary hall, where Joaquín Hernández, mayor of the municipality, and José Pablo Delgado Marín, head of the Eurovértice Department of Energy .
In October 2015, the European Pact of Mayors for Climate and Energy was launched, where thousands of local governments gathered to implement the necessary tools for mitigation and adaptation to climate change, Lorquí being one of the towns that adhered to that pact, giving rise to the elaboration of the PACES.
This plan approaches the objectives proposed for 2030, since it constitutes an essential tool that allows to have a reference emission inventory, an action plan for the control of the environment, an analysis of scenarios and a diagnosis of risks and vulnerabilities.
The project was carried out with an investment of € 15,000, with which the consulting firm, Eurovértice drafted the plan, which reflects the objectives to be met in different sectors that affect citizens.
Thus, it is intended to achieve a reduction of at least 40% in CO2 emissions, as well as to increase resilience by adapting the impacts of climate change.
In addition to the collaborating company, technical staff of the town hall, associations, as well as companies of the municipality and various groups have collaborated in the development of this plan.
The mayor thanked the program for its great reception and also highlighted the importance of an effective action plan in the global situation in which we find ourselves: "Climate change is already a reality and is one of the greatest challenges of our era that it requires immediate action and cooperation between local, regional and national authorities around the world, "said the mayor during the presentation.
