More than a hundred students of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) will analyze themes related to the landscape, the garden and the heritage of Lorquí.
UPCT and Ayuntamiento of the municipality of La Vega Media have today signed an agreement to develop a teaching innovation project in the field of architecture and urbanism.
The study will determine new urban uses of this municipality, with just over 7,000 inhabitants.
To do this, it will analyze the periphery of the urban nucleus, made up of new industrial estates, natural structures to take advantage of the territory adjacent to the river and the garden and the small urban peripheries of the twentieth century that combine the industry with low density accommodations.
As a teaching exercise of the project, the students will make a set of proposals for reactivation and rehabilitation of the House of La Cierva in order to revalue a very significant part of the architectural heritage of the municipality.
The project involves six professors from the Department of Architecture and Technology of Building and two others from Plant Production.
The study will be carried out by students of different subjects of all the courses of the degree in Fundamentals of Architecture.
The work will begin with the beginning of the next academic year and end in September next year.
Students of the subject of Geotechnics in the degrees of Engineering of Mines and Civil Engineering UPCT analyzed in 2013 the problem of the Cabezos de Lorquí, three hills in the urban nucleus of the town with abundant caves houses affected by the displacement of lands.
Collaboration agreement
The rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Diaz, stressed that the agreement signed today involves students of engineering and architecture in the study of real problems and approaches their proposals and projects to social and urban reality.
He also highlighted the connection of the university institution with society.
Díaz has approached with the mayor, Joaquín Hernández, other questions during their meeting held in the City of Lorquí.
Among them, to increase the R & D & I ratio of UPCT researchers with industries and the business fabric of the municipality, the possibility for students to carry out business practices as well as actions aimed at scientific and technological dissemination.
