The City Council announces the III edition of the Easter Photography Contest
A hundred neighbors recreate the last hours of Christ on Palm Sunday
Because of its important artistic, cultural and historical value, Easter Week in Lorquí transcends the religious and spiritual importance that this event has.
In recent years, has been able to position itself within the regional landscape thanks to the perfect combination of tradition, culture, cuisine and tourism that occurs in the town coinciding with these dates.
Throughout just over a week, unique events in the Region of Murcia, some of them with centuries of history, such as the 'Santo Desenclavamiento' or the procession of sculptures by the sculptor Francisco Salzillo.
Others, of more recent celebration, but that have known how to win the favor of neighbors and visitors, like 'The Living Passion' that represents Domingo de Ramos and that has as a setting various locations and corners of the town to represent the last hours of Christ .
After the presentation of the poster of Holy Week 2018 on February 28 and the proclamation by Ignacio García, doctor in Fine Arts and Professor of Drawing, on Saturday, March 17;
the acts begin on Palm Sunday March 25, with the Blessing of the Palms and Branches and the subsequent procession, in the morning.
At night, from 21:00 hours will be staged the 'VII Living Passion'.
In which a hundred residents of the municipality gives life and recreates the last hours of Christ, serving as a setting for the biblical passages numerous enclaves of the town itself.
The performance begins in the 'Enrique Tierno Galván' Auditorium where the 'Last Supper' takes place and from where Jesus Christ will depart to the 'Huerto de los Olivos' for his arrest in the Plaza de la Libertad.
Afterwards, he will continue his Via Crucis through the streets of the center of Lorquí until he bequeaths to the cabezos for his crucifixion, death and resurrection.
On Holy Thursday, March 29, at 9:00 pm, the Procession of Calvary takes place, in which two of the three works of maestro Salzillo in the municipality: Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and La Dolorosa.
Also, after the procession, in the Plaza de la Libertad, the blessing of the Nazarene of Salzillo takes place, which has an articulated arm to allow movement, a tradition of the Baroque that was rescued four years ago, recovering the mechanism of carving and allowing put in value an important feature of this piece, unique in the Region of Murcia.
Good Friday, March 20, has one of the most important events of the regional Holy Week, as the Plaza de la Libertad and the façade of the Church of Santiago Apóstol serve as the stage, the 'Santo Desenclavamiento' takes place in the that an articulated Christ descends from the Cross while the Music Band of the Friends of Music Association of Lorquí interprets a piece composed on purpose for this event by an ilorcitano, Cristian Marco.
After that moment, the Procession of the Holy Burial takes place.
Finally, Easter Sunday ends the Holy Week with the Glorious Encounter at 9:45 and the subsequent procession of the risen one.
One more year, the Easter Week photo contest has also been called to encourage neighbors and visitors to participate by immortalizing the best moments of these days.
And the Hall of Exhibitions of the City Council collects a sample of some of the best snapshots of the last two editions of it.
The City Council wanted to support, one more year, the culture and tradition of Lorquí promoting its Holy Week throughout the Region of Murcia, so that those who do not know it can still enjoy it these days and because it understands that it is an important tourist value of municipality.
For this, several brochures have been published that summarize the programming of these days and posters and mupis installed throughout the Region, two of them in the Gran Vía de Murcia.
In addition, advertising campaigns will be carried out in the media and the presentation of the Holy Week poster at the Salzillo Museum in Murcia was held for the second year, to give it a greater projection.
To complete the cultural offer, Lorquí has ​​organized a gastronomic route to taste typical dishes of these dates in collaboration with the establishments of the town, so that all those who come will be able to enjoy a complete experience during their visit.
The shops have also wanted to join this celebration by participating in the III Showcase Contest of Holy Week, organized by the Department of Commerce, and that will be even more atmospheric on the streets these days.
The mayor, Joaquín Hernández, has assured that "we have a unique and special Easter in the region" so "continue working to promote it" and took the opportunity to invite "everyone to come these days to know our rich heritage."
