A few days ago Lorquí City Council has begun in the palm of the municipality a microwave treatment to try to combat the red palm weevil plague that affects the trees, an epidemic that is raging throughout the Region of Murcia.
"This treatment directly affects the worm without affecting the palm tree," said Councilwoman Lorquí Urbanism, Carmen Baños, recalling that "the worm installs its larvae inside the tree and when it is born, attacks from within out, killing him, and humans do not perceive it until it's too late. "
The town has a total of 450 palm trees and, for now, have been affected only a small percentage.
"It's located in Liberty Square and the Town Hall Square," said Bath, who explains that all are being treated either as prevention or recovery.
"The trees that have an orange dot on the ground have already been addressed," he says.
"Palm trees are a feature of the area, a very typical feature of Lorquí and do everything in our power, the latter will be cut," says local Councillor.
