Televida workers (telecare and home care) through the Department of Social Policy, offered on Monday December 3 a talk on health and safety in the home.
The talk took place at a score of older people in the home of the 3rd Age of Lorquí and it dealt with the dangers that our elders can be found in your own home.
Cables that hang too thick carpets and floating to the ground or slippery floors may pose a danger to our elders without ever leaving home.
60% of the accidents suffered by seniors take place at home, especially in the kitchen and the bathroom.
So, this talk focused on helping these people to identify potential hazards and avoid them.
The first step is to understand the physical limitations that need and act accordingly.
Some precautions include: raise the height of the toilet, put grippers securely attached to the tiles in the bathroom and near the bathtub, always helping hands to get on and off, etc..
It is also important to install smoke detectors and gas, and prevent falls that may create a fear that prevents the continuation of a normal life.
But above all, this talk searched the complicity of our elders, who told their stories and shared their fears, looking among all solutions to prevent potential hazards indoors.
