Lorquí City Council shows support for the Saharawi people and recognize their right to self-determination through a free and democratic referendum.
Thus, the municipal corporation has unanimously approved a motion in full solidarity with their current situation.
They are numerous and repeated UN resolutions recognizing the right of the Saharawi people to decide their future freely and the need to seek a just and peaceful culminating unfinished decolonization process.
Thus, being aware of this situation and political responsibility, history and ethics of the Spanish state in this process, the City Council has ratified Lorquí their solidarity and support to the Saharawi people in their just struggle for their legitimate rights and urged the Government of Spain to continue advocating to the UN peace plan for self-determination.
It has also demanded respect for human rights in the occupied territories and the release of all Saharawi political prisoners and learn the fate of more than 500 civilians and 151 missing prisoners of war, as demanded by organizations defending the rights humans.
Finally, the Council has urged to increase food aid and cooperation with the Saharawi population that stands in subhuman conditions in the Tindouf refugee camps to alleviate the extreme conditions of life of its inhabitants and feeding requirements, educational and accommodation.
